Sinner became the first player this season to qualify for three finals
Grigor Dimitrov was able to overpower Alexander Zverev 6-4 6-7(4) 6-4 after a thrilling encounter on Friday to qualify for the Miami Open final.
The Bulgarian will face world number three Jannik Sinner in the final on Sunday.
Dimitrov, the 11th seed, made just three unforced errors to clinch the first set after dominating the show with his sublime forehand.
However, fourth seed Zverev, made a comeback to clinch the second set in the tie-break to level the match.
But Dimitrov extended his number of winners up to 44 in the third set as he registered his first win over Zverev since 2014.
According to Opta, after defeating Alexander Zverev in Miami, Dimitrov (32y 318d) became the oldest player to claim consecutive ATP top 10 wins in the round of 16, quarter-final and semi-final of an ATP Masters 1000 event, since the format’s introduction in 1990.
It was like a dogfight at both ends, we really went after each other,” said Dimitrov. A win would see him return to the top 10 for the first time since 2018.
“He upped his game in the second set. He had a chance in the third set too but I played well.”
Meanwhile, Sinner reached the final for the second year in a row after defeating defending Miami Open champion Daniil Medvedev 6-1 6-2.

“I felt really good on the court today, usually the longer you go into a tournament the more comfortable I feel. And I’m very happy with today’s performance,” said Sner, reaching the Miami final for the third time in four years. I said after arriving.
“I don’t think Daniel felt very good today. He made a lot of mistakes that he doesn’t normally make.
“It’s an important tournament for me if I can get it right. If not, I had another big chance.”
Snr, whose only loss this season was a last-four loss to Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells. Became the first player to qualify for three finals that season.
