The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is interested in hiring South Africa’s Gary Kirsten or Australia’s Justin Langer for the role of head coach.

Kristen coached the Indian team. While Langer has been the coach of Australia in the past.

The board is keen on securing a long-term contract for the new coach. The PCB continues its quest to fill the vacant position of Pakistan’s head coach. Since the dismissal of Grant Bradburn in the aftermath of a disappointing ODI World Cup campaign last year, the men in green have been without a designated head coach.

Former allrounder

Former allrounder Mohammad Hafeez temporarily filled the void, serving as both team director and head coach during Pakistan’s tours of Australia and New Zealand. However, Hafeez resigned from the post last month. Due to which the PCB was busy looking for a suitable alternative.

Initially, the PCB engaged in talks with former Australian allrounder Shane Watson for the head coach’s role. However, negotiations broke down, with PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi deciding not to accept Watson’s offer. I cited leaks to the media as the main character.

Naqvi revealed, “We were also in talks with Shane Watson. And one of the reasons why he didn’t accept the offer was because there were a lot of things leaked in the media, most of which were not true. Naqvi revealed. HD Live Sports

In addition to Kirsten and Langer, the PCB is reportedly exploring options with Mike Hesson, Matthew Hayden, Eoin Morgan, and Phil Simmons. While former PCB chief Zaka Ashraf advocated for local coaches, Naqvi has expressed a preference for a foreign coach.

However, the PCB faces challenges in convincing overseas candidates due to concerns stemming from the treatment of past coaches, both foreign and local.

A board official admitted. That “it is because of PCB’s poor track record in appointing and firing foreign and local coaches in the past. That others are now reluctant to accept any offer from PCB.”
