The Official Announcement
Slot’s move to Liverpool from Dutch side Feyenoord has finally been made official. The Reds have announced the appointment of Slot as the club’s new manager following Klopp’s departure at the end of the season. Slot will take over from June 1st, subject to a work permit, and has reportedly signed a three-year deal with the Reds.
Slot’s Accomplishments
Slot arrives at Anfield after three successful seasons in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord, where he won the league title and the KNVB Cup. The 45-year-old also led the team to the Europa League final in his first campaign in charge. Slot has big shoes to fill by replacing Klopp, who said an emotional farewell at the weekend. However, he may have already won over some fans, as Klopp led supporters in a chant to celebrate their new boss during Sunday’s win over Wolves.
Klopp’s Message to Fans
He told fans in a speech at Anfield: “You welcome the new manager like you welcomed me. You go all-in from the first day. And you keep believing and you push the team.”
Klopp’s Legacy
Klopp leaves Liverpool with a win rate of 60.9% in all competitions (299/491), the highest of any manager to take charge of 50+ games with the Reds.
What’s Next for Liverpool?
Slot will get to work with his new club next month and then head off to the United States in July for a pre-season tour and games against Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.
